Icons Forthcoming

In an effort to keep my journals active, I think I may engage in some more icon therapy in the near future.

Look for that to come.
- The Uninvited: Emily Browning and David Strathairn; First 15 minutes of film.
- Eagle Eye: Shia LaBeouf; Toward the end of the film.

I've Decided To Watch The Final Finale

...Of Robin Hood.

Okay, maybe just the last 20 minutes. I know I'm probably going to regret this. But I'm told that Lucy Griffiths makes an appearance, so it might be worth it to see her for a few moments.

... And I've come upon the scene where all the misbegotten sons of the philandering Lord Locksley fight against the Sheriff and their sister (?).

Oh Christ. I'm already regretting this. I like Tuck, though.

And obligatory evacuation. Kate and Archer, WTF?

Why is Robin taking his sweet time to die? I like Jonas Armstrong extremely, but I can't watch him die for the next ten minutes.

Lovely explosion.

Though, why is Robin walking amongst the outlaws? Oh, snap. Goodbyes.

Why am I crying? This show has been bastardized so badly in its last season... and yet, the emotion is ringing true. Whatever else I can say about this show, it was a wild ride when it was at its best. I'll miss the characters. Oh, why hasn't he died yet?

OOOOH! Lucy looks so pretty! And it's such a lovely dress! Aw, they're so cute. I miss them! Such a lovely image to be ruined by such a sad death-slump. Whatever. I hope Lucy and Jonas get to work together again. They're lovely.

And I'm over this show... really, now. (I should go back to making icons of "The Uninvited" now.)

Plot Bunnies continue to bite...

Every time I read "Sense and Sensibility" and Brandon gives an oral account of his personal history, I stop at the same line and my imagination runs away with me.

When Colonel Brandon says of his brother, "His pleasures were not what they ought to have been," I find it suggestive of his older brother being gay.

And I find that I want to write fic that revolves around the dissolution of Eliza's marriage to the elder brother of the Brandon family.

But, alas, I have other projects to write about.

Oh god. I think the universe wants me to write fanfic of "The West Wing." It was bad enough when I was inspired to write the politics & dance crack. (Backflip, FTW!!!!!) I will just have to sit down, block out thoughts of real or TV-drama politics and tell myself to write "Psych" fic.

Review: Sense and Sensibility 2008

I finally got around to watching the 2008 Edition of "Sense and Sensibility." I had avoided it because I had heard, in advance, that the piece was going to open with a sex scene wherein Dominic Cooper sounds like a bit of a creepy pedophile. And he did with his "And you're NOT a little girl anymore, are you?" After hearing that when I videotaped it, I promptly ejected it from my vcr and forgot about it until two days ago.

After getting through that invented scene, I did watch the rest of it, complete with more of Andrew Davies other imaginary scenes without wanting to harm Mr. Davies too badly. Though, someone should really tell that man that Jane Austen got it right the first time. But, I do have to say, I did appreciate that Colonel Brandon had more to do--- but I'll address all of that by and by. (Warning: I cannot be held responsible for the incomprehensibility that might arise in relation to appreciation of Mr. Morrissey's Brandon.)

My verdict on the work as a whole: Not as bad as I expected it to be.

Fic Musings and Television

I do believe that ITV is reading my mind and mining it for material. However, it is more likely that it is a coincidence.

I was pondering more Torn Curtain universe scenarios over the past two weeks, and came up with the beginnings of an Andrew/Marianne fic, and it seems that it is remarkably like a scene out of the television show "Lost in Austen." (The Darcy/Amanda dancing scene.)

I suppose I should take it as a sign that I should concentrate on either finishing my Psych flashfics or getting around to the CSI: NY fics I've been telling myself that I wanted to do. Meanwhile, I am, once again, running out of free time since classes start in 10 days. (Ironically, with school, I am more busy than I was when I held my last two jobs.)

Sadness: Psych on Break

Psych is on hiatus until the Christmas special. I am going to console myself by using my week off until grad seminars start again to write some fic. In the meantime, I will content myself with a gratuitous picture posting of Detective Lassiter.

Why do I love this character?

Here Comes Merlin

Watch out internet, I think I've found a new fandom:

This one, unlike Twilight, I think I'm going to take seriously. I cannot overemphasize how happy I am that Merlin has been created. After the Robin Hood series has become dead to me over the demise of my favorite character in the legend, I need something to fill the void left in my broken BBC-loving heart.

I hope this is it.

Sparkledammerung-Addicts Anonymous

Hi, my name is sprkysage.

Chorus: Hi, sprkysage!!!!

And I'm addicted to the most wretchedly wankable fandom on earth. *cough* Twilight *cough* I just cannot tear myself away from the LULZ. I cannot stop mocking the canon. And I cannot stop reading all the wank.

Breaking Dawn Spoofage

It has been a good many years since I have been a fan of cleolinda. When she joined the church of Shiteley (commonly referred to by my altar-ego as The Jaw), I excused myself from her fandom.

But her spoofage on the Twilight series has temporarily brought me back into the fold.

Gimme some "Breaking Dawn" Icons

It's official... I now want cracktastic icons depicting the hilariousness of "Breaking Dawn."

Quick note: I am a fan of Stephenie Meyer and the series--- but I suspect that many of the other fans will believe that my reasons for loving the books are *wrong.* Though, to quote a cliche, if this is wrong, I don't want to be right.

I want to write something cracktastic now.
I am in love with my soaps again... And it's not fair.

Even though the quality of the writing is severely inconsistent, it remains addictive. On Days, the Lucas/Sami/EJ triangle drew me in and I find myself wanting to keep up with it even though Sami's dialogue has deteriorated over the past few weeks.

And who was the evil genius who thought up the brilliant plan to bring Jake Martin back to "All My Children"? Was it the same evil genius that decided to cast Ricky Paull Goldin in the part? It's brillliant... and evil. I am addicted to the show again. They're teasing me with the possibility of a Jake and Greenlee love-reunion... and with a Jake who is better than his two acting predecessors put together.

You know how David Tennant's Doctor on DW is like Christopher Eccleston and Peter Davison (with a sprinkling of Paul McGann) put together? Well, Ricky Paull Goldin's Jake is like John Edward Peck and Michael Lowry with a heavy sprinkling of Gary Sinise and a dash of David Tennant put together. (And I absolutely LOVED John Edward Peck--- until Goldin came along, J. Eddie Peck was MY Dr. Jake Martin.)

I need more J&G fans as my LJ friends. I crave the icons... the FANFICTION... the fan vids!!!!!! I need more.

It's gotten to be so bad that I've started making icons again...

teaser teaser teaser

(And there are more where those three came from...)

And it's so bad that I'm also messageboarding about Jake and Greenlee. Not blogging--- MESSAGEBOARDING. And I've actually ranted and railed against a casting decision that's bringing Beth Ehlers back onto the soap canvass with Ricky Paull Goldin. And while I loved the two of them as supercouple Gus and Harley on "Guiding Light," I don't want Beth Ehlers's character to come between RPG's Jake and Rebecca Budig's Greenlee.

Though, the storyline disaster that would be a Beth Ehlers/Ricky Paull Goldin reunion on "All My Children" might actually be good for me--- so that I can break my newfound addiction.

I cannot tell you how many times I've watched this spoof WISHING that RPG's Jake winds up actually kissing RB's Greenlee.

Swingtown Thoughts

I have just seen half of "Swingtown."

Here are some thoughts:

1) Jack Davenport needs to FIRE his dialect coach and search for the dialect coach that worked on the set of "Band of Brothers."
2) The show is Fabulously Horrible or Horribly Fabulous-- either way, it is horrible and fabulous at the same time.
3) Jack Davenport and the woman who plays his wife are WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too young to portray the parents of that girl.
4) Grant Show's porn mustache did exactly what I thought it would do--- it upstages anything else that's in the scene with it.
5) I am really insanely pissed that there looks like there's going to be an inappropriate student/teacher relationship developing. WHY is it always the teacher of English Literature? It's not that I'm completely against an age-inappropriate relationships as dramatic plot points, but couldn't it have been one of the neighbors?
6) Why does the woman who plays Jack Davenport's wife remind me a little bit of Kate Isit? (Coupling!)

CSI: NY--- liveblogging

Oh, Detective Mac Taylor... I love you.

The episode isn't even halfway over... but I am so in love with you right now, it's not even funny.

***Edit 1: Goodness, he's so hot when he's at gunpoint.

***Edit 2: WTF?!!!! Who is trying to set up this guy?... Also, Danny is beginning to become hot to me again--- despite his cheating ways.

***Edit 3: Mac, will you marry me? Danny... stop being hot because I want to stay mad at you.

***Edit 4: Mac, you can jump me like that... Hell, you can even hold your *gun* on me like that.

***Edit 5: Jack Davenport on the commercial for "Swingtown." He's almost being overshadowed by Grant Show's porn 'stache. And why is the girl playing his daughter too old and unattractive to be his daughter? It should be the girl from "Shark" or Amber Tamblyn (who is too old, but at least she's pretty enough to play JackDav's daughter). OOOOOOOOH, Mac's back on TV.

***Edit 6: Awwww... Mac, you're gonna help him. Well, when you're done playing hero, come to my window, baby. (Yes, I'm aware that I'm sounding crazy.)

***Edit 7: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I absolutely CANNOT wait through the intervening months after this cliffhanger.

CSI: NY-- WTF?!!!!

Detective Daniel Messer,

You broke my heart, sir. YOU BROKE MY HEART!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope Donald Flack punches you in the face because of your stupidity! I hope Mac rips you a new one!

spoilery rant found herein...Collapse )

I think I can state with confidence right now that I am royally pissed at the writers of the show. I don't know how they are going to fix it.

I think I'm going to have to fix it myself via fanfiction. (When I can squeeze in the time.)

15 Characters Meme

Still haven't been able to write. (Short on time.) But I figured that I'd post something that might get me thinking about characters in hypothetical situations to get the creative juices flowing. (Will cross-post to my personal journal.)

1) Make a list of 15 characters.
2) Assign each character a number.
3) Without telling anyone who's on the list or the character's assigned number, get questions from your flist about what they'd like to know about them.
IE: "If 3 and 4 were trapped in a cave together with only a blanket and a toothpick, what would they do?" (The more random the better!)
4) Post the answers and who was who on the list.

The Characters:

1) Detective Carlton Lassiter (Psych)
2) Ziva David (NCIS)
3) Marian (Robin Hood)
4) Danny Messer (CSI: NY)
5) Mac Taylor (CSI: NY)
6) The Doctor (Doctor Who)
7) Eliot Stabler (Law and Order: SVU)
8) Marianne Dashwood (Sense and Sensibility)
9) Detective Ryan Wolfe (CSI: Miami)
10) Beatrice (Much Ado About Nothing)
11) Benedick (Much Ado About Nothing)
12) Lindsay Monroe (CSI: NY)
13) Juliet O'Hara (Psych)
14) Teddy Wong (Kitchen Confidential)
15) Detective Sam Tyler (Life on Mars)

Psych Musings

I'm sad... The second half of the second season of Psych is over.

On the up-side, I'm in love with Lassiter's new hair.

I'm pissed that Shawn hit on Emily Bloom last episode... but since I'm told that there will be more cute Shawn/Juliet moments in the third season, I'm placated.

And why can't my Detective Lassiter get a little action? Bring back Trish Connor or Emily Bloom... either will do. Lassiter needs a little love.

More Lassiter

My love of Lassiter is growing by leaps and bounds. The completely justified "I told you so" look that he gave Juliet in this week's episode of "Psych" was absolutely awesome.

And his, "Hola, me llamo Inspector Carlton Lassiter. Me gusta queso" line was pure genius. If I get more time, a fic will appear wherein Detective Lassiter actually GETS his cheese.

I don't want to go to work tomorrow.

I'm sorry... Having seen the opening to the new adaptation of "Sense and Sensibility," I am frankly apalled.

Should I even bother watching the rest of it?--- Particularly since I was SUCH a fan of the 1995 version. I thought that was nearly perfect. The only thing I would have liked to have seen differently were the men. I thought Alan Rickman should have been the wonderfully snarky Mr. Palmer and Hugh Laurie should have been Col. Christopher Brandon.

I love this character

Gosh, I love Lassiter.

I'm going to attempt writing-therapy again--- though, it's not gone well these past few months. I think "Psych" is my fandom of choice--- because, according to James Roday, the Shawn/Juliet pairing that seemed so ridiculously apparent in September (when things were going well for me with he-who-must-not-be-named-because-he-went-batsh*t-insane) is not going to go anywhere in season 2.5 which starts on Friday. Knowing that, in some silly way, makes me feel less bitter about how things have turned out for me.

I also want to re-explore what I've set up with Trish/Lassiter. Trish is such an adorable character--- smart, optimistic, enthused, responsible, and just lovely. Lassiter is wonderfully complicated--- tough, capable, unintentionally goofy (but in an adorable way), vulnerable, intermittently terse and gab-happy, and I love him. (If he was a real person, I'd be all over that. And it doesn't hurt that he's played by Timothy Omundson, either.) They'd be a winning combination if only the writers of the show could see it. Steve Franks needs to bring Trish back to the show... and should also let James Roday co-write more episodes.

I wonder why it is that the Shawn/Jules thing is going to be at a standstill on the show. Juliet's extreme restraint and denial? Or is it Shawn's embarrassment at not being acknowledged as her romantic interest in the Christmas episode after the half-kiss (aka the "very close talking" moment)? How are they going to address the relationship's demotion to non-romance status? There was a little bit of awkwardness during the Christmas special, but I think that Shawn needs to have a tiny bit of an outburst and Juliet needs to explain herself and her position. She obviously has feelings for the man, and he knows this. And, while his character isn't like me, I think he's owed some sort of straight-forward reason as to why she's not giving in after a couple of years.

And what of Gus? He needs to do more outside of being Shawn's sidekick. Chief Vick's baby and her husband need to make an appearance as well.

And it's 2008...

2008 is here which means that 2007 is thankfully over and done with.

After reading the umpteenth blog entry detailing what the BBC has to say on the matter of Lucy Griffiths' truncated stint on the show "Robin Hood" I can now say that the show is dead to me. I hope Ms. Griffiths finds success wherever she ventures because she is extremely talented, but the writers of RH had no business taking as many liberties with such a legendary romance as that between Robin and Marian. This is a blasphemy on par with what "Smallville" has done to the Superman mythology... except that the sins that the RH writers have committed are, to me, more egregious because I had more faith in them.

This comes on the heels of a certain boy decimating my Christmas. (That boy has turned me into Medea... and I am surprised. Of all the men in my life that could have turned out to be my Jason, I did NOT expect it to be this one.)

2008, will you bring me a fandom that will not betray me? (And while you're at it, would you please send me a boy who isn't a complete idiot?)

Ah, the questions...

Why am I, as an author, kicking Theo's ass lately?

Why have I made him the king of TMI conversations?

Why have I made him into such an immature boy when it comes to Margaret?

Could it be that I am projecting?

But if so, WHY does it seem to fit so well?

Life and the Muses

I know I've been neglecting this journal. I think I'll take up the muses again. But I thought I'd offer a bit of an explanation. I know a handful of you already know all about this, but here are my reasons for neglect:

1) the demise of my career
2) confusing personal relationship
3) a job hunt
4) and the testing and application process that, if all goes well, SHOULD result in my acceptance into a PhD program

But the muses are calling to me, and I think that there might still be fic in the future. I just thought I'd thank everyone who's sticking around.
